Linear algebraic representation for topological structures

چکیده
With increased complexity of geometric data, topological models play an increasingly important role beyond boundary representations, assemblies, finite elements, image processing, and other traditional modeling applications. While many graphand indexbased data structures have been proposed, no standard representation has emerged as of now. Furthermore, such representations typically do not deal with representations of mappings and functions and do not scale to support parallel processing, open source, and client-based architectures. We advocate that a proper mathematical model for all topological structures is a (co)chain complex: a sequence of (co)chain spaces and (co)boundary mappings. This in turn implies all topological structures may be represented by a collection of sparse matrices. We propose a Linear Algebraic Representation (LAR) scheme for mod 2 (co)chain complexes using CSR matrices and show that it supports variety of topological computations using standard matrix algebra, without any overhead in space or running time. Full open source implementation of LAR is available and is being used for variety of applications.

Functorial semantics of topological theories
Following the categorical approach to universal algebra through algebraic theories, proposed by F.~W.~Lawvere in his PhD thesis, this paper aims at introducing a similar setting for general topology. The cornerstone of the new framework is the notion of emph{categorically-algebraic} (emph{catalg}) emph{topological theory}, whose models induce a category of topological structures. We introduce t...
متن کاملA representation for some groups, a geometric approach
In the present paper, we are going to use geometric and topological concepts, entities and properties of the integral curves of linear vector fields, and the theory of differential equations, to establish a representation for some groups on $R^{n} (ngeq 1)$. Among other things, we investigate the surjectivity and faithfulness of the representation. At the end, we give some app...
متن کاملCategorically-algebraic topology and its applications
This paper introduces a new approach to topology, based on category theory and universal algebra, and called categorically-algebraic (catalg) topology. It incorporates the most important settings of lattice-valued topology, including poslat topology of S.~E.~Rodabaugh, $(L,M)$-fuzzy topology of T.~Kubiak and A.~v{S}ostak, and $M$-fuzzy topology on $L$-fuzzy sets of C.~Guido. Moreover, its respe...
متن کاملCoherence for Frobenius pseudomonoids and the geometry of linear proofs
Frobenius pseudomonoids are higher-dimensional algebraic structures, first studied by Street [34], which categorify the classical algebraic notion of Frobenius algebra [24]. These higher algebraic structures have an important application to logic, since Frobenius pseudomonoids in the bicategory of categories, profunctors and natural transformations, for which the multiplication and unit have ri...
متن کاملON ALGEBRAIC AND COALGEBRAIC CATEGORIES OF VARIETY-BASED TOPOLOGICAL SYSTEMS
Motivated by the recent study on categorical properties of latticevalued topology, the paper considers a generalization of the notion of topological system introduced by S. Vickers, providing an algebraic and a coalgebraic category of the new structures. As a result, the nature of the category TopSys of S. Vickers gets clari ed, and a metatheorem is stated, claiming that (latticevalu...
